Physiotherapy is about more than exercises — it’s about helping people move well, stay safe, and live as independently as possible. Within the NDIS, physiotherapists support participants of all ages, from young children learning new skills to older adults wanting to remain mobile and confident in daily life.
Physiotherapy for Children
For children, physiotherapy often focuses on developing key gross motor skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, and joining in play with others. Sessions are designed to be fun and engaging, often using play-based activities, balance and strength exercises, or even hydrotherapy. Where needed, physiotherapists can also recommend or prescribe equipment such as walkers, standing frames, or supportive seating to make everyday activities easier and safer.
Physiotherapy for Young People and Adults
As children grow into young people and adults, physiotherapy continues to play a vital role in supporting independence and participation. This might mean building strength and endurance for work or study, improving safe mobility, or trialling equipment such as wheelchairs, hoists, or assistive technology. Therapy is always tailored to individual goals — whether that’s playing sport, attending school or work, or enjoying time out in the community.
Physiotherapy for Older Adults
For older adults, physiotherapy becomes especially important in preventing falls and maintaining mobility. Physiotherapists assess balance, strength, and functional abilities before creating programs that help people stay strong, safe, and active at home and in the community. Recommendations may include walking aids, exercise routines, or home modifications to reduce risks and make everyday tasks more manageable.
More Than Movement
Physiotherapy within the NDIS is not just about physical exercises — it’s about building confidence, independence, and safety. By supporting people to move well and participate fully, Physiotherapists help participants live the life they choose.
